When you like Funk, James Brown, Earth Wind or Kool & the Gang, you like
strong and rhythmic Afro-American music which touches the body before
getting to the senses. As you become more and more specialized you can
discover that behind the stars and the top of the chart, a countless number of
powerful and quality bands have been produced (most of the time
confidentially) during the 70's and the early 80's. (cf. Playlist).
What does France have to do with that ?
Funk de Luxe & Opération Héritage are project which intends to allow general public to have access
to a part of French funk which has stayed unknown despite its incredible quality.
As a matter of fact, if the country of the Camembert is not a
priori the country of Black Panthers, black ghettos, and others elements which
have left their mark on Afro-American culture of the 70's. Still, the rhythmic
influences of these elements had strong impact on French music. That is how
the funk gradually came into movie soundtracks, TV or radio background
music, and finally became a real style of music for artists. The Funk managed to
inspire great musicians which have given it a resolutely original style.
